Artist Statement

Throughout high school, I was able to explore many mediums and types of art. Now that I am studying art and jewelry design at SCAD, my possibilities are endless and I am so excited to see what is in store. In the future, I want to either work for a jewelry company as a designer or start my own jewelry line. When I’m not at school, I work at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village as a Dining Service Assistant, and a Social Committee and Activities Assistant.  My job isn’t exactly geared toward the art world, but because of it I have had the chance to work with many different types of people and gain experience in customer service and leadership. I also raise sheep which lead to my interest in knitting and fibers. I plan to minor in Fibers and Textiles.
I have always known that I wanted to work and have a career in the art world.   I am passionate about creating, so when I got accepted to SCAD, I knew that was the direction I wanted to go towards.  Going to school for jewelry design seemed like a perfect fit for me and my future.  I have been designing and making jewelry for a few years, and I recently started making glass beads.  My pieces usually incorporate mixed metals and asymmetrical designs with an antique flair. I love making jewelry because it gives me a way to express myself and share it with others.  I try to find new ways to create pieces that are interesting and different. Although making jewelry is what I enjoy most, I also work with paper, to create paper cut creatures. Unlike the rest of my work, my paper cuts are somewhat realistic. I prefer to create abstract or non-objective pieces.  I experiment with wool and different fibers as well.
